Terms and conditions EU VAT Check API
Version 1 November 2026. The Dutch version prevails in case of discrepancies.
1. Provider
The EU VAT Check API (the "Service") is provided by Klik&Shop, a sole proprietorship (eenmanszaak) located at Paramaribohof 55, 2315 VW Leiden, the Netherlands, registered with the Dutch Chamber of Commerce (KvK) under number 98148362, VAT ID NL005310837B66. Contact: info@klikshop.tech, +31 6 11188391.
2. Scope
These terms apply to all use of the Service, the website and any purchase of credit. By creating or using an API key you accept these terms. The Service is intended for businesses and organisations.
3. The Service
The Service validates EU VAT identification numbers via the European Commission's VIES system, temporarily stores results (cache) and offers additional tools (VAT rates and IBAN validation). A result reflects what VIES or the national tax authority returned at the time of the check. Klik&Shop does not guarantee the accuracy, completeness or timeliness of that data, or the availability of VIES. A result is not legal or tax advice and not proof towards any tax authority. VAT rates are an informational snapshot.
4. API keys
You are responsible for keeping your API key secret. A key is shown only once and cannot be recovered. All use with your key is your responsibility. Klik&Shop may block a key in case of (suspected) abuse.
5. Free use and credit
Each key gets 5 free checks per calendar month. You can also buy prepaid credit: €5 for 2,000 checks or €15 for 10,000 checks, VAT included. A check is any lookup that produces a result (valid or invalid, including cache hits). Format errors and lookups that fail due to a VIES outage are not charged. Purchased credit does not expire while the Service exists and cannot be moved to another key. Payment is processed by Stripe. Prices for new credit may change. Credit you already bought stays valid.
6. Withdrawal and refunds
Unused credit is fully refunded on request within 14 days of purchase. If you are a consumer, you agree on purchase that delivery starts immediately. The right of withdrawal lapses for credit you have already used. If Klik&Shop discontinues the Service, we will announce it on the website at least 30 days in advance and refund unused credit pro rata.
7. Fair use
You may not use the Service for unlawful purposes, for mass harvesting of business data (e.g. for unsolicited marketing), or in a way that overloads VIES or the Service. Technical limits apply (such as 60 requests per minute per key and 5 one-time free manual checks on the website). The free website check is for manual use; automated use is not allowed, use the API instead. We may adjust them to keep the Service stable.
8. Availability
We aim for high availability but do not guarantee uninterrupted operation. Maintenance and outages at VIES or our hosting partner can cause interruptions.
9. Liability
Klik&Shop's liability is limited to direct damage and to at most the amount you paid for the Service in the 12 months before the event causing the damage. For free use the maximum is €50. Klik&Shop is not liable for indirect damage, such as lost revenue, fines or tax assessments, or for damage caused by incorrect VIES data. These limits do not apply in case of intent or deliberate recklessness.
10. Privacy
How we handle data is described in the privacy statement. If you check personal data through the Service (e.g. VAT numbers of sole traders), you are responsible for having a lawful basis.
11. Changes
We may change these terms. We announce material changes on the website at least 14 days in advance. If you keep using the Service after that, the new terms apply.
12. Use via RapidAPI
If you use the API through the RapidAPI platform, RapidAPI's own terms also apply in addition to these terms. For that channel RapidAPI handles registration, subscription and payment; Klik&Shop's credit and prices on this website do not apply. RapidAPI forwards your requests to Klik&Shop's server. Klik&Shop does not receive card details.
13. Law and disputes
These terms are governed by Dutch law. Disputes are submitted to the competent court in the district of The Hague, unless mandatory law provides otherwise. We prefer to resolve complaints together first: email info@klikshop.tech.
